A Woodland Park Air BnB Kid’s Bunkhouse.

This bunkhouse was so much fun to dream up! The homeowner wanted a gender neutral space for kids that complimented the “outdoorsy” aesthetic of the rest of the home. We painted a faux deer head and added bluebirds for a fairytale vibe that coordinated with the black and white artwork hanging beneath it. We also made the large canvas art ourselves- using a shower curtain. Yes- a shower curtain! We painted over the trees and deer to add depth and texture. We wanted to create a fun place for kids to come visit, explore and relax on vacation.

VRBO in Woodland Park, Colorado

We had the privilege of creating and implementing the design plan for this rustic retreat that will be available to rent later this month. This vacation rental has three bedrooms, 2 full bathrooms, an open floor plan and a large back yard surrounded by trees. This project was so much fun to work on! Scroll down to the bottom to see some “before” photos. This home has been transformed!

Functional Kitchen Decor

I experimented with some functional vignettes in my kitchen this weekend. I wanted something that saved counter space and brought some aesthetic appeal. I was inspired after visiting numerous kitchen vendors while helping my parents embark on a renovation of their own last week. There are so many ways to use trays to group things together for organization and beautiful displays.

The Home Is Designed Around Emotional Needs. ~Amanda Talbot

Isn’t this quote the truth?! I feel that my previous background in social work really helps me tune in to people’s emotional needs and translate that into a design that brings comfort to their surroundings and feeds their soul. Understanding how color, texture, lighting and space makes you FEEL is so important. Do you agree? I love how walking into a well designed room makes me FEEL. It’s all about the “feels” for me.

Fabric Remnant to Wall Art DIY

I fell in love with this piece of linen fabric and immediately saw a masterpiece of artistry in the block print pattern. I decided to frame it. I purchased a poster frame (yes, that lovely gold frame is actually a poster frame from Target) and used Velcro tabs to adhere the linen fabric to a piece of plain white fabric, then I framed it with the gold frame. What do you think? Can a gorgeous fabric remnant become a beautiful piece of wall art? I think so!

The original piece of fabric

I love design that’s timeless and yet still gives a nod to current trends. I like to mix different styles and fuse them together. I like the way it makes the room feel and draws the eyes to different features in the room. I especially like adding an antique in the mix- something with history or a story of its own. If everything is strictly one design style I think it is much less interesting and somehow not as inviting. What is your design style? Do you like to combine the old with the new?

I am loving the color pallet we created for a new client. They wanted warm earth tones and their personal style is a blend of traditional and rustic. We are going to give their “sheet-rock fireplace” (you read that right, the entire fireplace is orange-peel textured sheetrock) an entire makeover. We will add stone and a beautiful wood mantle, a built-in cabinet beside it with floating wood shelves to match the mantle….and more! Then we will completely refurnish the family room to create a “Colorado Retreat” that’s cozy for family and kids and also inviting for guests when they entertain. The challenge will be (and there is always a challenge to every project😊) incorporating the existing wood tones and countertops in the adjoining kitchen. It’s important that the new feature-wall/fireplace does NOT look like an afterthought. It needs to feel like it has always been part of the home. The home has a wonderful open concept, high ceilings and lots of natural light from big windows all around the East side of the home. So much potential! I can’t wait to get started! Stay tuned to view design boards with ideas and inspiration and photos of our progress moving forward.
Before: This is the “Sheetrock Fireplace” that will get an entire overhaul.

Before: Huge widows with lots of natural light. They will be getting new window coverings and custom blinds.
