I really, really love Carrara marble. I don’t love the price tag, but who does? I decided to try painting my existing countertop and using an Epoxy coating. I had a 90’s guest bathroom that I’ve hated since we moved into our house. I decided to take down the ginormous 90’s mirror, change the lighting and faucet and update the countertop. I’m not quite through with this mini renovation but it’s coming along nicely.

Taping the mirror so it doesn’t shatter when I pry it away from the wall. -
90’s mirror is gone! Now to patch up the wall where the glue held the mirror in place. -
Prepping the counter to paint and refinish. I sanded it beforehand. I used painter’s tape in the holes for the faucet. -
I used little silicone salad dressing cups that I wasn’t using. I taped them underneath the basin where the holes for the faucet are. -
I used Valspar primer -
I used a roller for cabinets to apply the primer and also the next layer- white paint. -
This is the Glaze Coat kit I purchased at Lowe’s. It’s an epoxy used for bar tops. -
I painted the marble veining freehand. I used two shades of gray and an iridescent pearl to imitate the real striations. I blended with a dry brush and a sponge. -

Next I added the epoxy . You can see the iridescent shimmer in this photo. -
